Sustainability is believed to be the basic criterion by which to assess the ability of biotechnology to respond to the challenges of the future. This paper analyzesgenetic engineering and new biotechnologies as applied to food, GMO and non-GMO, in emerging and developed countries, and attempts to debunk prejudices and clichés.
