FOOD & THE CITY – THE ROLE OF CITIES IN ACHIEVING THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Cities are key to transforming food systems and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The challenges and opportunities presented by today’s urban and peri-urban systems lead us to reflect on new approaches to transforming food systems.

In 2014, the Municipality of Milan and Fondazione Cariplo created the Milan Food Policy, an innovative urban scheme aimed at increasing the sustainability of the food system in Milan.

This publication provides policymakers, international and business organizations, and civil society with a set of joint recommendations to bolster their collaboration and improve coordination between urban networks in a range of fields, including governance, monitoring and evaluation, territorial development, resource management, legislation and education.
